Each piece is designed and handmade by me in my San Francisco Bay Area studio, an old African mahogany dining room table in my home - my vast and beautiful palette. 'Victorian Tea' was inspired by the most perfect teapot sterling charm I had on hand for my design work. When Heather Davis' chintz rose lampwork beads arrived, I knew the teapot had met its match. In designing 'Victorian Tea,' I was swept back in my memory of the most wonderful tea and pastry/scone shop in the Yorkshire District of England. It is called Bette's Tea Shop and has become famous with tea shops in several parts of England. I was there perhaps 20 years ago in the dreary early Spring where I sought cover from the rain and enjoyed the most charming ambience of the warm, cozy (and yummy) tea shop. Another memory which pops to mind is the time I had 'High Tea' at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia. It had a tradition dating back into the 1800's and it was as perfectly sublime as one would imagine. In any case, 'Victorian Tea' hopes to mirror the tradition, the gentle finery, the garden settings and the care taken in the ritual now and then, of 'High Tea.' Heather Davis' amazing lampwork set includes the focal chintz rose done in soft pinks upon transparent periwinkle glass. Two small floral rounds match the focal perfectly along with two of her signature peony beads, also in soft blue or periwinkle. Two round florals by Melanie of Glass Valley combine and complete the piece perfectly. In composing 'Victorian Tea,' I built the design in colors around Heather's beads using semi-precious gemstones, white sterling coil beads among other beads. Jean Vainio * Blue-grey quartz faceted chalcedony briolettes * Tiny, but stunning teardrop blue fire moonstones * Soft lilac furnace beads by Penrose * A wonderful teapot sterling charm 'Victorian Tea' is finished with an ornate and lovely Bali silver toggle clasp and measures @ 8 inches and can be resized at no additional charge. Note that all my photos are taken in natural lighting. I tend to wait until the late afternoon when I can capture the depth and texture of the piece and the individual shine and angles of each bead. I did include a few shots of the piece in full sunlight in order to capture the elegant sparkle of the piece. This is a very staid, elegant and almost regal piece that is at once antique looking and quite modern in its design.
